Hi, I’m Jess — and I’m the human behind Peter Pup. I wasn’t just raised with dogs. I was born into a home with one. There’s an old photo of me — I must’ve been just a few months old — curled up in a blanket on the floor, and next to me, also curled up, is our family’s golden retriever, Molly. I don’t remember it, of course, but the photo says everything: that bond was there from the very beginning.
Since then, dogs have been the constant thread through every part of my life. There’s rarely been a moment when there wasn’t a wet nose nudging my hand, a tail thumping against the furniture, or dog hair somehow stuck to every item of clothing I own.
I’m not a professional dog trainer or a vet. I’m just someone who’s spent a lifetime learning through the joyful, messy, hilarious reality of living with dogs. From chewed shoes to first vet visits, muddy hikes to heartbreaking goodbyes — I’ve seen and felt it all.
My first “job” was, naturally, offering to walk the neighbors’ dogs. And I say “job” loosely, because I would’ve done it for free. (Please don’t tell the neighbors — they might still owe me five bucks.)
These days, when I’m not writing about dogs or hanging out with mine, I volunteer with local shelters. Helping dogs find their forever homes — or just giving them a warm blanket and some extra attention — is something I care deeply about. Every dog deserves love, safety, and a second chance.
peterpup.com is where I share what I’ve picked up along the way: what worked, what flopped, and what made me laugh out loud. It’s a space for other dog people — not experts, not perfect owners, just folks who love their dogs fiercely and want to give them the best life possible.
So if you’re here looking for tips, stories, or just a little reassurance that you’re doing okay — welcome. You’re in good company.
(And if your dog is reading over your shoulder — give them a treat from me.)
